Richard Gere, Perfect for Purim

I don't know how far and wide the exposure and publicity Richard Gere's Israeli interviews have gotten, but they got intolerably too much press here in Israel.

As the entire world heard at the pinnacle of the Academy Awards presentation this year when veteran and revered actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway showed that their specialty is reading lines, not comprehending them. Richard Gere's statements are on the same track. The utter nonsense Richard Gere has spouted as his plans for the Middle East is as realistic as the worst of Science Fiction or at best Fantasy. Gere reminds me of my students' insistence that James Bond was a real historic character, and the books and movies were based on true facts.

Actor Richard Gere attends a press conference for 'The Dinner' at the 67th Berlinale film festival, Berlin, February 10. Gere has criticized Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and Israeli settlement building.JOHN MACDOUGALL/AFP/GETTY
RICHARD GERE: THERE IS ‘NO DEFENSE’ OF ISRAEL’S OCCUPATION OR ‘ILLEGAL’ SETTLEMENTS
Gere is a convincing actor, but that doesn't mean that his knowledge and understanding of the situation here is more than superficial. All he's doing is repeating the Obama-Kerry lines, which we all know are based on a pro-Arab, pro-Palestine even if it causes the destruction of the State of Israel ideology.

Honestly, anyone who thinks that the corrupt terrorists ruling in Gaza and Ramalla can morph into peaceful, tolerant and reliable leaders has been watching (or acting in-- like in Method acting) too much Hollywood fantasy and Science Fiction.

The utter irony is that some of his words were totally on target, but his Leftist ideology distorts his comprehension of reality.
Truth is dead, the obvious is dead, language is dead,” he told Channel 2’s Dana Weiss... (the algemeiner)
Considering Gere's visit and Purim Holiday, we can see that Gd has a great sense of humor. You can read it that Richard Gere admitted that his "truth" is a lie, since “Truth is dead" in his very words. The real Truth is you must take Gere's message and reverse it.

  • Settlements are completely legal.
  • Israel is meant to be in all of the Land liberated in the 1967 Six Days War.
That man sure needs a better scriptwriter...

Like a broken record, when we don't create our destiny, it is done for us. Now this:

By Caroline Glick. The best commentary is that Trump is being fair to hear their side and the obvious worst case is nothing will change from Obama to Trump.

At least no more of the undisguised antipathy of the Obama era.

How puzzling and ironic that he opposes "settlements" while publicly wearing an orange wrist band in the picture.

It certainly and doesn't reflect support for the expulsion survivors of Gush Katif. That broke everyone's heart. How could anyone oppose the Israeli right to remain on Israeli land? Love or hate Israel (I love Israel), what happened at Gush Katif was gut-wrenching and just plain wrong and immoral. If I were interviewing him, I'd ask him to watch coverage of the expulsion and Amona and ask him to justify it.

He wouldn't be able to because there's no justification

I'm sure people from Gush Katif still have their orange wrist bands and flags...

Meant to say Gere is symbolically mixed up. Of course the wrist band represents support for Gush Katif. He's confused in what he is saying verbally and symbolically.

DOUBLE STANDARD:
Have you ever noticed that people who want a Jew-free Palestine are called peace-lovers; but people who want an Arab-free Israel are called racists?

PS: Please read my recent guest-post on this blog:

For what it's worth, I think peaceful Arabs would do much better if they gave up on a Palestinian state and embraced Israeli citizenship and restoring Gaza to Israel.

TY Mr. Cohen. I will read it.

Keli, maybe "orange" has been adopted by other causes.

Keli Ata said...

I know. Just ironic. I guess I have color association for orange. Will never forget that horrible summer of the expulsion, and what it was associated with.

Batya Medad said...

Maybe it's supposed to be a red string?

Keli Ata said...

Could be:) Looks orange though.

Batya Medad said...

yes, but it's string, not a plastic/rubber bracelet
