Under extreme pressure from the left wing media, Israeli police continue to arrest Jewish nationalists with little or no evidence. Even though most charges are eventually dropped, the detainees face difficult conditions in prison cells and interrogation rooms.

Recent cases highlight this travesty. Over the last two weeks, four young women, including two minors, were arrested on suspicion of setting fire to an Arab’s vehicle in Hevron. The police admitted in court their evidence was weak. As a result the women were released without charges. The case against the minors has not been concluded.

Planting Stones: Our Nitzan Synagogue Cornerstone Ceremony

I think there were more small children there than anyone else. No matter where I walked they kept running against me, dodging me, bumping into me. A lot of children and a few cute little puppies. Both dashed everywhere, howled, and begged to be picked up. Sadly, they made it difficult to hear the speakers at the synagogue cornerstone ceremony Wednesday, 22 June 2011. Nevertheless, they added a lot of life and gaiety to what otherwise would have been a sentimental and strongly emotional event.

It all started off on a symbolic note when Rabbi Avraham Uchayon placed a fragment of stone from the Neve Dekalim, Gush Katif, synagogue complex into the cornerstone pit. It seemed to me rather like planting a stone seed – water it and it’ll grow and blossom and flourish into a stone building, our new synagogue. But stones don’t grow with water, nor do buildings spring as quickly as plants. Yet the Rabbi gave a touching speech as he stood over the cornerstone. He bid us remember that this synagogue is temporary, because we will yet return to Gush Katif. We wanted to hear that. We needed to hear that. And so we cheered…

However, until that happens, we can be pleased by knowing that the architect of our new synagogue, Prof. David Cassuto, is a very special and talented person and we are allowing him to close a unique personal circle. In his speech, Cassuto told us that his first job upon receiving his degree from the Technion was to design the synagogue for the Nitzanim youth village. Fifty years later, he would be there (here) once again, designing four synagogues for the Gush Katif expellees.

Standing on the stage during the cornerstone ceremony he told us how the army had sent him to photograph the Gush Katif synagogues before their IDF destruction. So he went and saw them. And then he visited with the Pope's representative in Jerusalem and asked how he can stand by and watch holy sites be destroyed. The representative contacted the Pope, who told former PM Ariel Sharon not to destroy the synagogues. Holocaust survivor Cassuto viewed this as a victory – that Jews wouldn't destroy synagogues.

In such an event like a cornerstone celebration it is the small things that matter. The fact that MKs weren't there even though they were invited was shameful, but at least we were there for each other. I saw one middle-aged man put an arm around a friend that he hadn’t seen for a while, dispersed to another Gush Katif community, and walk with him to the corner stone. How often do they speak to each other? Do they manage to call or visit? Or do they, like me, wait for these events to renew acquaintances with former Gush Katif friends? An elderly neighbor of mine with red-dyed hair wandered over greeting people in a friendly but flustered way. Her friend motioned her over and beckoned her to sit beside her. These are the gestures of a community – taking care of each other. Helping one another without strings attached. In short, people who are friendly with other people purely for friendships sake.


Though the band played well, it took a while for dancing to start. In the end, it wasn't until they started an Irish tune that a ring formed; a father started dancing with his children and others joined in. When the chief Rabbi of Hof Aza saw this, he hurried over to join with his usual beaming smile. As I left, I heard the kindergarten children's performance, singing into the microphone. The last act was to be a flag dance.

Though fashioned by a wonderful architect there is still something I'd like to see accomplished: the ark pillars from the Neve Dekalim Ashkenazi synagogue, which were sawn in two in order to fit the pre-fab Caravilla synagogue, need to be made whole once more. Can that be done? I hope so.

But we all have our dreams. We dream to return to Gush Katif. Prof. Cassuto told us that it was his dream to be the architect for the Temple, yet Rav Ovadia Yosef told him that the Temple will descend built from Heaven, but that he shouldn't grieve; every building settles down after a year and needs to be touched-up, and who better than him to 'touch up' the Temple?

The day will come and our dreams will come true.

Airport Security Checks

Flying can be a very inefficient form of "public transportation" because of the fear of terrorism.  Last night my husband and I flew to the states from Israel for family reasons.  I was glad that I didn't dirty my socks.  We were not required to take off our shoes.  Other things, no doubt due to profiling, seemed less strict for us.  Maybe it was how I called the security inspector over, asking why we had been skipped.  The atmosphere was pleasant, but I have this way about me that generally makes the security guys/gals feel that I'm just a harmless old lady.

On the otherhand, the Delta people didn't allow water bottles onto the plane.  We emptied the bottle, I drank 2/3 and my husband 1/3 before that strict security check.  It was refilled from the water fountains, but they made us dump it.  At least the Delta airplanes gave large cups of water with unlimited refills. 

When I flew from AZ to NY last summer, I was allowed to bring water and coffee bought in the airport after going through security.  Now I'm confused.  The rules keep changing or is it country or individual airports that make those decisions?

Gilad Shalit, A Victim of Ideology

Every time I read/hear that Gilad Shalit's parents are blaming Prime Minister Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu for his continued imprisonment, as if the Likud is hiding him some place in "HaMetzudah," The official Likud office building in Tel Aviv, I really feel sorry for the kid. 

Israeli policies, which predate Bibi's becoming Prime Minister, have been wrong in treating Arab terrorist prisoners like honored guests.  They should get no more than the minimal that international law demands and even that should have ceased once the Hamas Arab terrorists captured our soldiers and gave them nothing that international law demands.

The Shalit family advisors are from the Israeli Left, and their pressure on Israel to give in to terrorist demands is wrong and dangerous for all.

The "Goldene Medina" and the Sinful Words of Dotan and Aviram (Parshat Korach)

The term "Die Goldene Medina" is Yiddish for "the Golden Land" and refers to America. 

This past Shabbat was Parshat Shavua, Torah Portion of the Week, Korach in which we read something similar:
Numbers Chapter 16 בְּמִדְבַּר
יב וַיִּשְׁלַח מֹשֶׁה, לִקְרֹא לְדָתָן וְלַאֲבִירָם בְּנֵי אֱלִיאָב; וַיֹּאמְרוּ, לֹא נַעֲלֶה. 12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; and they said: 'We will not come up;
יג הַמְעַט, כִּי הֶעֱלִיתָנוּ מֵאֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ, לַהֲמִיתֵנוּ, בַּמִּדְבָּר: כִּי-תִשְׂתָּרֵר עָלֵינוּ, גַּם-הִשְׂתָּרֵר. 13 is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but thou must needs make thyself also a prince over us?

When Dotan and Aviram called Egypt, where the Jewish People had been slaves to Pharaoh, "a land flowing with milk and honey," a term G-d uses for the Holy Land, it's a very serious sin.  No doubt that today's Jewish worship of diaspora life is a continuation of that very sin.

Life here in the Land G-d sent us to may not always be dull and easy, but:
  • Life out of the Holy Land isn't alway that good, safe, affluent either,
  • and the more Jews here, the better it will be.

IDF Soldiers Are Patriots, The Problems Are With Top Brass


Soldier's from the Golani Bridage's Battalion 13 who completed training Thursday wore t-shirts protesting the use of IDF soldiers in expelling Jews in Judea and Samaria from their homes.

The graduation ceremony, held at the Golani junction, was attended by soldiers and parents from across the political spectrum. The soldier's shirts read: "The Golani fights enemies and doesn't expel Jews." (complete article)

Korach's "Band of Merry Men" and Durban III

Those rabid anti-Israel ideologues involved in Durban III (and also Durbans I and II) have something in common with this week's Parshat Shavua, the Torah Portion of the Week, Korach.

The Durban Conferences are "high-minded," slickly planned excuses to blast Israel.
The United Nations World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance met in Durban, South Africa from August 31 to September 8, 2001. The UN General Assembly authorized the conference in Resolution 52/111 in 1997, aiming to explore effective methods to eradicate racial discrimination and to promote awareness in the global struggle against intolerance.

Yet the noble goals of the 2001 UN World Conference Against Racism were undermined by hateful anti-Jewish rhetoric and anti-Israel political agendas, prompting both Israel and the United States to withdraw their delegations from the conference. Participants revived the scurrilous charge that "Zionism is Racism" and used false and hostile allegations to delegitimize Israel. (complete article)

Korach, managed to attract followers by preying on their dissatisfaction and ambition.

At first it sounds like they want to do Moses and Aaron a favor, very moral, but the truth is that it's a rebellion against G-d.  There's nothing moral about it.  Korach, the con man, was very dangerous and that's why he and his followers were swallowed up, a very rare punishment.

Pretty words, like the official aim of the Durban Conferences, don't make them moral.  Look at what's behind them and their true aims.

If Bibi Was Really Serious About Trying to Free Jonathan Pollard, This Video Would be in English



Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu is professional and smooth, but it isn't Israel that needs to see and understand his message. The message should be in English for the Americans who have kept Pollard a prisoner for over twenty-five years. That's well above any punishment for a similar crime. Actually there haven't been too many spies for allies. Pollard has been held longer than spies for enemy countries are generally imprisoned.

Israel-Arab "Land Swap" plus "Defensible Borders," An Oxymoron

In political speeches, like fairy tales and romance novels, reality doesn't hold a candle.  You're expected to "just imagine" a world in a different dimension where the Laws of Nature and Numbers don't function.

If Israel gives away to anyone, friend, foe, Arab, U.N., U.S. etc an iota of the land we now hold we won't have defensible borders.  The idea of "land swap" is even worse.  Just look at the maps:




The lines/borders are pretty straight right now.  Once you start making squiggles and swaps Israel won't have defensive borders.  It's very simple.

No doubt in my mind that when United States President Barack Hussein Obama and all sorts of other politicians, media people, professors etc claim that we can be safe and secure after giving Arab terrorists our Land, they are out and out lying.  They don't care one iota if we survive or not.

We, Israel, don't have to please anyone.  We just must take care of ourselves!

Negotiating Peace in Good Faith? Not In the Foreseeable Future

Unfortunately, some things must be seen in black and white.  Negotiating in good faith would mean no prior demands and a mutual goal.  We have none of that between Israel and the Arabs.  Egged on, encouraged by United States President Barack Hussein Obama, the Arabs are demanding that as a condition for even beginning to negotiate, Israel must agree to a total withdrawal from the land we won fair and square in a defensive war for our very existence in June, 1967.

If that's the case, then what is there left to negotiate?

Nu, there's another problem.  Israel wants peace, and the Arabs want our Land to make a new state.  We don't have the same goals.

Nu, so what's there to talk about?

Talks with the Arabs will only bring us war.

It's very clear.

So, let's just get on with living here.  And let's stop this farce. 

Say NO TO NEGOTIATIONS!

As The American Presidential Election Campaign Heats Up...

It's important for American Jews to make it clear that they see through Barack Hussein Obama's words and delete/stop all support for him.

Not only Jews should look at the pattern of actions and policy statements, but all of those who really care about American security and world peace.

There's a real difference between formal "speeches" to special interest groups and policy statements.

The "formal speeches" are carefully crafted to get maximum applause and make the speaker, like United States President Barack Hussein Obama appear to care about the audience's interests.  They are not policy.

Obama's "pro-Israel" words show no more love than an abuser trying to calm down his victim after beating him/her up.

Obama's policy is to reduce Israel to indefensible borders and strengthen Arab terrorists.  That's it short and simple.  He identifies with the Arabs, especially the Pseudostinians aka Palestinians sic.  His hissy fits when Israel does what is accepted in any normal country, like building in its Capital City, is "chutzpah" and worse.  His "land exchange based on May, 1967," borders is outrageous and shows a total ignorance of history and international law.

Granted that the percentage of Jews in the American population is very, very small, but there's no reason to support an enemy.

The Moon "Is Shrinking;" Rosh Chodesh Tammuz is Getting Closer

The Jewish Calendar is lunar with adjustments to keep our holidays in their correct seasons.  Rosh Chodesh, the first day in the Jewish Month begins when it's almost impossible to see the moon; just a thin sliver shows.  A full moon is the middle of the month.  Sivan, this month's moon was full a couple of days ago and is now getting smaller.  Rosh Chodesh Tammuz is less than two weeks away. This coming Shabbat we make a special blessing heralding the new month.  In it, we ask G-d to be blessed and that we get what we need in the right amounts.

Rosh Chodesh is also considered the Women's Special Holiday.  A few years ago I began inviting women to come to Tel Shiloh to pray.

It was in Shiloh, the Biblical and modern Shiloh are the same location, where Chana successfully prayed for a son.  Shmuel, that son, was the leader who transitioned the Jewish People from the anarchy of "Judges" to the monarchy by annointing Saul and later David to kingship.

Jerusalem, Always Changing

Will I ever get used to the Jerusalem Calatrava String Bridge, which dominates the Jerusalem skyline?  Whether I think it was wise to build, or safe for the train isn't relevent.  You just can't ignore it, not from any angle.






And soon, the Central Bus Station will be hidden by a massive new housing project.  No, if you're wondering, it isn't being built for the "ordinary people," עמך amcha who are most dependent for public transportation.

What Laws of Judaism Are Most Important to Keep As a Jew?

On my me-ander blog, I asked jbloggers to tell me what their "red line" is on Jewish observance.  I don't think I explained myself clearly.  I know that there's a very wide variety of "that's enough to be a good Jew" observances, individual "red lines." 

Recently a friend told me about a gifted young (eats kosher only) chef who's studying abroad and how he manages. 

But the real impetus to my question is something that happened decades ago.  I didn't know how to react then and the incident periodically pops into my mind.  I used to mock it, but now I realize that I should have shown more understanding.  The people involved have since passed away, and I'll try to blur the identities, not that I'm in touch with anyone who would know them.

Decades ago during one of my visits to my parents I saw some friends of theirs.  Nowadays many non-Orthodox Jews know of people who have become more religious than they had been raised to be, but in those days, I was an odd novelty. It was very common in my parents' generation to shed most religious observance.  My mother told me that it was expected, as the price of being good/real Americans.  They were horrified and shocked when I turned the tables and took on kashrut, Shabbat and more. 

These friends of my parents must have had been no older and probably younger than I am today, but they looked at me with my hair covered, long skirt and more children than they had, also their children's peer, as some sort of representative of G-d.  It was almost as if they were using the Catholic concept of a "confessional" hoping that I would tell them how righteous they still are.  I just remember myself standing in shocked silence, not knowing what to say.

Here's the story as I remember it:
We're still good Jews.  We try to be.  We fast on Yom Kippur, and believe me, it isn't always easy.  Last year we were visiting one of our children (note that I knew that the spouse wasn't Jewish, something they didn't mention but was ringing in my mind as I heard the story) and knew that Yom Kippur was that night.  We got to the restaurant* early enough so we'd finish eating on time, before the fast.  The service was awful.  Finally, I got up and yelled at them:
"Don't you understand?  Its almost time to start the Yom Kippur fast and we haven't been served our food yet!!!"
I just stood there and wonder to this very day how I should have reacted.  I used to think that religious observance had to be all or nothing, but as I've gotten older and seen more I realize that every mitzvah observed has its value.  By praising even partial, minimal observance there's more of a chance that observance will be continued and even increased.

Will I Ever Ride the Lightrail?

They're talking about more delays to the start of Jerusalem's lightrail.  So far, it's just a heavy thud, even falling off the tracks.  Various journalists have been given free rides in exchange for the publicity, but they haven't invited this blogger yet.

When I peek into the moving sans passenger trains I can see that they still have plastic protecting the seats.  That's to preserve the fiction that the cars are new.  At this point they aren't.  The "powers" want to keep the seats clean to impress the first official passengers, no doubt.





Many experts are convinced that the lightrail was the wrong solution to Jerusalem's transportation problems.  Most crucial is the safety issue.  Along part of the route the roads are too narrow to accommodate emergency lanes.  So, in simple words, police, fire trucks and ambulances have problems helping people, because they can't go on those roads.  The pictures above are from the section of Jaffa Street that does have  a lane for cars.  Fire trucks crossing the tracks must take special care that they don't let their ladders hit the high voltage wires which control the trains.

No doubt various Jerusalem office holders were blinded by the smooth talk of the "train promoting lobby."

AMAZINGLY, WHILE all of these developments are alarming, and while all of them have justifiably dominated much of the coverage of the Middle East in recent weeks and months, the fact is that all of them pale in comparison to what is happening in Iran. And this story is receiving only scant and generally superficial attention from the international media and the major governments of the Western world.

Monday, The Wall Street Journal editorialists summarized the major developments on this front. First, last week the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency released previously classified sections of its latest report on Iran. The report says that in the last six months, Tehran enriched 970 kilos of uranium to reactor-grade levels, bringing its publicly known stockpile of low enriched uranium to 4,105 kilos.

Iran also has enriched 56.7 kilos of uranium to the 20% level, from which it is a relatively simple matter to increase enrichment levels to the 90% needed to make a nuclear bomb.

Iran has also installed upgraded centrifuges in its until recently secret enrichment facility at Qom.

Rand Corporation scholar Gregory S. Jones wrote this month that Iran has reached nuclear breakout capacity. In his words, "Iran can now produce a weapons's worth (20 kilograms) of HEU [weapons-grade uranium] any time it wishes. With Iran's current number of operating centrifuges, the batch recycling process would take about two months."

Apparently owing to their certainty that Iran is an unstoppable nuclear power, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards took their guard down in a recent issue of their in-house journal. The magazine published an article describing the day after Iran performs a nuclear test.

And the beat goes on. Yesterday, Iran successfully launched a second spy satellite into space.

The launch indicates that Iran is acquiring greater prowess in developing intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities. Such capabilities along with Iran's nuclear program and global ambitions constitute a clear and present danger to Europe and the US.

Iran's steady progress toward a nuclear arsenal was made all the more frightening in the face of the recent comments by retired Mossad director Meir Dagan. In a shocking breach of protocol and in apparent violation of the law, the man who until a few months ago stood at the helm of Israel's efforts to thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions attempted to take Israel's military option for striking Iran's nuclear installations off the table. In press interviews, Dagan stated that it would be disastrous for Israel to strike Iran's nuclear installations.

Dagan failed to note that it would be far more disastrous to allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. (complete article)

New Building Style, Judea and Samaria

Due to the housing demand, many Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria have begun building multi-family housing.





This way there are more families on less land.  Some people really like the idea, because each building becomes a mini-neighborhood.  Prices are less, also, and upkeep falls less on the individual homeowner.  Other people wish they could have larger plots of land and more distance between homes.  Personally, I think there should be choices and a range of prices, too.

And just a reminder, many of the so-called "settlements" are towns decades old.  The schools are filling with second generation students.  Our Ohel Shiloh School is finishing its thirtieth year.  It first opened on September 1, 1981, with eighteen students in three grades.  Today the boys and girls schools are under separate administration.  There are many classes in the eight elementary school grades and hundreds and hundreds of students.

The latest community projects are being geared for the 55-plus age group, as the original "pioneers" are reaching retirement age and looking for suitable activities.  Life in the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria suits Jews of all ages.

Bibi, There is a "solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict"

Ha'Aretz has a headline:

Now, for something "out of the box." Why do we need a "solution?" It's like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. 

A pre-schooler would fail an Intelligence Test if he/she insisted on stuffing a square peg in a round hole. Chipping away at the square peg doesn't solve the problem.

You must match the shapes to the holes.  They need to be the right shape and size.

There are many overweight children and adults who were trained to eat more "to grow taller."  Basic height is genetic and can't be increased by eating more.

And dressing Arab terrorists in a suit and tie and giving them a state won't change them from terrorists to peace-loving, pro-human rights leaders.

So, what's my solution?
  • Israel must stop all negotiations with the Arabs.
  • Israel must declare that there must never be a "Palestinian State."
  • Israel must annex all of the Land we still administer since the 1967 Six Days War ended.
  • Israel must build more homes for Jews in all locations and encourage Jews to live in our Historic Homeland.
Yes, that's my SOLUTION.  If the Arabs don't like it, they can vote with their feet, but the chances are that they'll want to stay here under Israeli Law, benefiting from Israeli technology, education, health care and increased security.

And The World Doesn't Care



Could you escape in 15 seconds? Only in a movie, a character like Indiana Jones can rescue himself in seconds.



With the newer, more advanced weapons being given/donated/sold to the Arab terrorists, there won't even be 15 seconds to escape the deathly attacks. 

Israel must out and out refuse/resist all pressure by the American Barack Hussein Obama Government to even think of, forget about negotiate, according to 1949, pre-June, 1967 cease-fire lines.

It doesn't matter what Israel does, what concessions, compromises, endangerment to our security, most of the world will never like us. It's time to do only what's good for us according to G-d's commandments.

Quality versus Quantity- Parshat Shlach Lecha

In this week's Torah Portion of the Week,  Parshat Shlach Lecha, we can compare two missions, one unsuccessful and one successful, by looking at both the Torah Portion, Numbers Chapters 13:1-15:41, and the Haftara, Joshua Chapter 2.

Both missions had the same basic aim/assignment, get basic information about the Land the Jewish People were to enter immediately.  In both cases, the main leader stayed behind and sent very distinguished representatives.

Numbers Chapter 13 בְּמִדְבַּר
א וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר. 1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
ב שְׁלַח-לְךָ אֲנָשִׁים, וְיָתֻרוּ אֶת-אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן, אֲשֶׁר-אֲנִי נֹתֵן, לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: אִישׁ אֶחָד אִישׁ אֶחָד לְמַטֵּה אֲבֹתָיו, תִּשְׁלָחוּ--כֹּל, נָשִׂיא בָהֶם. 2 'Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a prince among them.'
ג וַיִּשְׁלַח אֹתָם מֹשֶׁה מִמִּדְבַּר פָּארָן, עַל-פִּי יְהוָה: כֻּלָּם אֲנָשִׁים, רָאשֵׁי בְנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל הֵמָּה. 3 And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of the LORD; all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

Moses was ordered by G-d to carefully give each tribe equal representation. So he sent a delegation of twelve, one from each tribe.

Joshua Chapter 2 יְהוֹשֻׁעַ
א וַיִּשְׁלַח יְהוֹשֻׁעַ-בִּן-נוּן מִן-הַשִּׁטִּים שְׁנַיִם-אֲנָשִׁים מְרַגְּלִים, חֶרֶשׁ לֵאמֹר, לְכוּ רְאוּ אֶת-הָאָרֶץ, וְאֶת-יְרִיחוֹ; 1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two spies secretly, saying: 'Go view the land, and Jericho.'
You probably know that the first mission ended in disaster.  Instead of just describing what they had seen, the twelve "tourists" added an unasked for spin.  It was a very pessimistic one.  Ten out of twelve claimed that the Land was inhabited by giants and there was no way that the recent slaves (to Pharaoh) could defeat them if attacked.  The people were scared silly and all were punished by G-d.  They were forced to wander the wilderness, stateless, for forty years until a new generation had been born and ready to take over.  That's where Joshua's story comes in. Joshua was one of the two representatives who gave a minority opinion that the Jewish People could make the Land their home and shouldn't worry.

Forty years later, Joshua secretly sent just two people he could rely on, with the added advantage that the smaller number was able to go where twelve couldn't.  This was a different mission, one of quality, rather than quantity.

I emphasized "secretly," because that's a key security principle and today's Jewish People and State of Israel have forgotten it.  We are most secure when we rely on G-d and follow G-d's orders. 

Our great military victory, the 1967 Six Days War went against all conventional military wisdom.  The only reason why we survived was because we fought it without allies, without the help of other countries.  The United Nations, the United States, Europe etc. stood by expecting us to be defeated.  Thanks to G-d we weren't.  Not only weren't we defeated, but we ended up with our historic, Biblical Land and defensive borders in our hands.

Six years later, when the Egyptians and Syrians massed on our borders and then attacked us on Yom Kippur, 1973, instead of just fighting for our lives, existence, survival, we kept "consulting" with Nixon and Kissenger asking their permission, waiting for more weapons.  We were almost defeated.  The United States had been hoping that we would ask them to come in and take over security.  Thank G-d we fought better than they had predicted/calculated.

I'll end this with a quotation from King David:
1 Samuel Chapter 17 שְׁמוּאֵל א
לג וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל אֶל-דָּוִד, לֹא תוּכַל לָלֶכֶת אֶל-הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי הַזֶּה, לְהִלָּחֵם, עִמּוֹ: כִּי-נַעַר אַתָּה, וְהוּא אִישׁ מִלְחָמָה מִנְּעֻרָיו. {ס} 33 And Saul said to David: 'Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.' {S}
לד וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל-שָׁאוּל, רֹעֶה הָיָה עַבְדְּךָ לְאָבִיו בַּצֹּאן; וּבָא הָאֲרִי וְאֶת-הַדּוֹב, וְנָשָׂא שֶׂה מֵהָעֵדֶר. 34 And David said unto Saul: 'Thy servant kept his father's sheep; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,

לז וַיֹּאמֶר, דָּוִד, יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר הִצִּלַנִי מִיַּד הָאֲרִי וּמִיַּד הַדֹּב, הוּא יַצִּילֵנִי מִיַּד הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי הַזֶּה; {ס} וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל אֶל-דָּוִד לֵךְ, וַיהוָה יִהְיֶה עִמָּךְ. 37 And David said: 'The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.' {S} And Saul said unto David: 'Go, and the LORD shall be with thee.'

We the Jewish People and the State of Israel must never depend on others to save us. Just like during the Holocaust, when the Nazis were systematically murdering Jews and the world stood by uncaring (at best,) they wouldn't endanger themselves to save the State of Israel. The Allied Forces fought the Nazis to keep them from taking over Europe and Britain, not to save the Jews. It's hard for many Jewish People to accept it, but it's fact.

70 Kilometers From the Israeli Border

On Friday an IMRA mailing caught my eye:
Hundreds of 70 km missiles from Libya to Gaza

Maariv correspondent Eli Bradstein reports in today’s edition that Israeli
security sources warn that in recent weeks hundreds of Grad rockets (range
60-70 kilometers) have been smuggled from Libya to the Gaza Strip via Egypt.
This in addition to many shorter range rockets, arms and weapons.

Now seventy kilometers may not be much in the United States, Canada, the Former Soviet Union, China, India, Brazil or even France, but it's a major distance for Israel.




The following map shows the range of Israeli cities when attacked by twenty (20) kilometer katyusha rockets.  Twenty is less than a third of seventy, so try tripling the danger distance.


These maps say it all.

When so-called military experts, whether American, European or Israeli claim that Israeli security would be viable with another Arab state, they are out and out lying. The fact that the United States and other countries continue to give/sell arms to our Arab neighbor-enemies, knowing full well that we are their prime targets is a very serious, dangerous problem. No Iron Dome can save us.

When You've Heard The Used Car Salesman Bragging That He's Selling You A Lemon, Do You Still Buy From Him?

There's something awfully דפוק dafook (fokokt) in the Israeli psyche.  Why else would our lame-brained "intrepid" leaders keep insist on going back to negotiate with Arabs who don't want us to exist and don't want peace at any price short of our death and destruction, G-d forbid?

Honestly, I'm pretty tired of blogging this same message over and over.  Am I only speaking/writing/blogging "to the converted?"

Israel and "the Arabs" don't have a "disagreement."  We don't need mediation.  It won't help or "resolve the issues."  The situation is much more serious.  Simply put:
The Arabs want Israel destroyed, dead and gone.
What's there to negotiate?  The method?  Fire? Drowning? Explosions?  Knives? Guns?

I feel like a broken record...

Obama's Pushing The Arabs To More Extreme Anti-Israel Positions

It was one of those Eureka! moments when I read Herb Keinan's article in the Jerusalem Post on Shabbat.
If you want to know what the Palestinians are going to do tomorrow, just listen to what US President Barack Obama says today. In May 2009, after the first meeting in the White House between Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, the US leader made a comment that set the tone for the next couple of years and pretty much killed any chance of negotiations: Settlements must stop.

“Settlements have to be stopped in order for us to move forward,” he declared.

The Palestinians, who until that point had never made a total settlement freeze – including in areas beyond the Green Line in Jerusalem – a condition for negotiations, heard Obama and pounced. If this was what the American president was saying, how could they ask for anything less?
How many times have I said that "I don't care what Obama says, he's the United States President, not the President of Israel?"  Well, after reading Keinan's piece I realize that in a sense I'm wrong.  Barack Hussein Obama is much more dangerous to the future of the State of Israel than even I figured.  Obama is also guaranteeing that the Pseudostinians aka Palestinians sic will never truly negotiate peace with Israel.  That can be good news, as long as we in Israel have a government more concerned with our survival than international platitudes.

Please don't ignore the fact that Obama's entire Middle-East policy is based on two very dangerous for the world, not only for Israel "principles."

First of all, when considering his insistence that if any changes are made in the pre-June, 1967 borders there be a "land swap" is based on his total ignorance of history.  No doubt that he's not the only one who thinks that there was an Arab country called "Palestine" before May, 1948.  Obama and his fellow history-ignoramuses don't understand what the British Mandate of Palestine was.
...The mandate formalised British rule in the southern part of Ottoman Syria from 1923–1948. With the League of Nations' consent on 16 September 1922, the UK divided the Mandate territory into two administrative areas, Palestine, under direct British rule, and autonomous Transjordan, under the rule of the Hashemite family from the Kingdom of Hejaz in present-day Saudi Arabia, in accordance with the McMahon Correspondence of 1915.[1] Following the 1922 Transjordan memorandum, the area east of the Jordan river became exempt from the Mandate provisions concerning the Jewish National Home.[1][2]

The preamble of the mandate declared:

Whereas the Principal Allied Powers have also agreed that the Mandatory should be responsible for putting into effect the declaration originally made on November 2nd, 1917, by the Government of His Britannic Majesty, and adopted by the said Powers, in favour of the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people*, it being clearly understood that nothing should be done which might prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.[3]
The formal objective of the League of Nations Mandate system was to administer parts of the defunct Ottoman Empire, which had been in control of the Middle East since the 16th century, "until such time as they are able to stand alone."[4]

The myth of "the Palestinian sic people" only began after the British got the mandate to establish a Jewish State.

In Obama's (and the international Left, including many ignorant Jews) faulty mind-set Israel (the Jews) stole land from a once sovereign country.  Never in the history of the world had there been a Palestine nor a Palestinian people!

Israel's second problem when it comes to Barack Hussein Obama is that he really doesn't care what his policies do to the security and survival of the State of Israel.

And now back to my usual theme-
  • We, Israel must ignore the demands of Obama, the United Nations, Tony Blair, J-Street etc. and totally disengage from all levels of negotiations with the Arabs.
  • Israel must officially annex (better late than never) all of the Land we liberated in the 1967 Six Days War that is still in our hands. 
  • We must all/encourage Jews to live in all parts of the Land. 
  • We must totally crack down on terrorism, including the death penalty for all terrorists who murder, and make it clear to the Arabs that we will always be here.
Those points will bring us to true peace!

Female Political Hopefuls, Beware of Perfect Faces, Figures and Loving Husbands

I think that Rush Limbaugh got it right re: Sarah Palin.  Yes, the jealousy factor, her looks and loving husband make the American public (especially other females) very nervous.

Eleanor Roosevelt never had that problem.  If she had tried to run for United States President over fifty years ago, she probably would have succeeded.  She wasn't a great beauty and her husband, United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, FDR, had a long-time mistress.

Hillary Clinton, being of a different generation, tried to use her marriage to philandering President Bill Clinton as a stepping stone to her own United States Presidency but had the bad luck to be opposed by the more photogenic and novel Barack Hussein Obama.

Palin is even prettier than the lookalike actress/comedian, Tina Fey, who played her on Saturday Night Live.  Don't forget that Fey is younger, born in 1970 than Palin, born in 1964, and has only one child versus Palin's five.

There are countries that like to elect pretty women in solid marriages, but the United States isn't among them.

I'm rather cynical about politics and politicians.  It's all theater, and you can't force people to buy tickets.  Also, nowadays at least, most politicians, especially in the United States, are just actors, figureheads spouting/declaiming whatever their staff writes out for them.  Campaigns, programs, policies are out of the control of the candidate/office holder.  The image takes on a life all its own, like that Woody Allen movie,  Purple Rose of Cairo - 1985, in which movie actors and characters get all mixed up with real life.

Palin and her family are probably better off if she sticks to her media job with Fox News and doesn't run for the U.S. Presidency.  She won't be elected.

A Dose of Reality/History


I took this picture from the Hebrew University Amphitheater on their Har HaTzofim, Mount Scopus campus.  My husband and I were there for his Masters Degree graduation.  Considering how extremely Left most of the professors there are, I was surprised at references to a dark part of the university's history.  Sorry, but I didn't take notes, nor write down the name of the speaker who set me on the track of this post.

The event's theme was Jerusalem, and there was mention of the nineteen years between the War for Israel's Independence  and the 1967 Six Days War, when the university campus was an isolated enclave in Jordanian held territory.  Jordan made it very difficult and dangerous for Israelis to get to it. Hebrew University had to rebuild itself in a totally new location.

During the speeches I daydreamed a bit and took photographs.


My mind wandered, thinking of that nineteen year isolation.  Isn't it rather "ironic," that the Hashemite-Jordanian kings who are such favorites of the western world, considered so European, were the rulers that are responsible for Israel's difficulty accessing  the Mt. Scopus campus during those nineteen years.  It was also Jordan that forbade not only Jewish Israelis but Christian and Moslem ones, too, from visiting holy sites in the land that Jordan had invaded and taken over.  During those nineteen years, Jordanian soldiers also shot at Israeli citizen and didn't prevent terror attacks against Israel.

I keep wondering what "rose-colored" lenses Prime Minister Binyanin Netanyahu wears to make him convinced that Israel would survive the convoluted borders he's proposing, when those occupying the neighboring land (G-d forbid) will be terrorists who deny Israel's right to exist

Syrian Brutality Steals The Headlines

Israel's strong response against invading Arabs from Syria was bupkes compared to the violence between Syrian authorities and the protesters.



Israel may have killed about a dozen of rioting invaders, maybe 10% of the number that the Syrians killed.  What surprises me is that there are international protests against what Syria has done.  Generally the Arabs can get away with all sorts of violence. Bashar al-Assad's Teflon must have had worn away.

I have no doubt that the firmer Israel is against violent rioters and invaders, plus we must never apologize, the less the world will criticize us. 

There isn't a country anyplace in the world that allows anyone to force their way in at borders without proper visas and procedures.  Every other country shoots those threatening violence.

Generally by Rosh Chodesh Sivan it's rare to see the late winter wild flowers blooming here in Shiloh, but apparently because of our late rains, there were many pockets of color last week when we went down to Tel Shiloh for our monthly women's prayers and tour.

The Little Red Hen, The Coming of the Moshiach (Messiah) and Redemption

The Little Red Hen is a classic children's story about a little red hen, who
  • found some seeds of wheat on the ground
  • planted the seeds
  • harvested the wheat
  • took the wheat to the mill to be ground into flour
  • carried the heavy sack of flour back to the farm
  • baked bread from the flour
At every stage, step of the way, she asked the other barnyard animals to help, and each time they refused.  So when the bread was ready to eat and they wanted to join her, she refused to give them any bread. 

Please hold that thought while reading the rest of this post.

The first Jew was our forefather Abraham.  G-d gave him very clear instructions as to what being a Jew requires:
Bereishit Genesis Chapter 12
א וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-אַבְרָם, לֶךְ-לְךָ מֵאַרְצְךָ וּמִמּוֹלַדְתְּךָ וּמִבֵּית אָבִיךָ, אֶל-הָאָרֶץ, אֲשֶׁר אַרְאֶךָּ. 1 Now the LORD said unto Abram: 'Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto the land that I will show thee.
ב וְאֶעֶשְׂךָ, לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל, וַאֲבָרֶכְךָ, וַאֲגַדְּלָה שְׁמֶךָ; וֶהְיֵה, בְּרָכָה. 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing.
ג וַאֲבָרְכָה, מְבָרְכֶיךָ, וּמְקַלֶּלְךָ, אָאֹר; וְנִבְרְכוּ בְךָ, כֹּל מִשְׁפְּחֹת הָאֲדָמָה. 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse; and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.'
Those are G-d's instructions for all Jews, wherever we are.

On Shavuot we read Megillat Ruth. When Ruth pledges herself to Naomi she makes points very similar to G-d's instructions to Abram (Abraham.)
Chapter 1
טז וַתֹּאמֶר רוּת אַל-תִּפְגְּעִי-בִי, לְעָזְבֵךְ לָשׁוּב מֵאַחֲרָיִךְ: כִּי אֶל-אֲשֶׁר תֵּלְכִי אֵלֵךְ, וּבַאֲשֶׁר תָּלִינִי אָלִין--עַמֵּךְ עַמִּי, וֵאלֹהַיִךְ אֱלֹהָי. 16 And Ruth said: 'Entreat me not to leave thee, and to return from following after thee; for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God;
יז בַּאֲשֶׁר תָּמוּתִי אָמוּת, וְשָׁם אֶקָּבֵר; כֹּה יַעֲשֶׂה יְהוָה לִי, וְכֹה יוֹסִיף--כִּי הַמָּוֶת, יַפְרִיד בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵךְ. 17 where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried; the LORD do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.'
For a convert to Judaism it's required to accept these principles.

G-d prepared the world and the Land for us in the beginning... in Bereishit, Genesis, and the final creation was Shabbat, (chapter division is Christian, not Jewish,)  Chapter 2:
א וַיְכֻלּוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם וְהָאָרֶץ, וְכָל-צְבָאָם. 1 And the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
ב וַיְכַל אֱלֹהִים בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי, מְלַאכְתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה; וַיִּשְׁבֹּת בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי, מִכָּל-מְלַאכְתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה. 2 And on the seventh day God finished His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.

Chazal, our sages, say that Shabbat is a taste of Redemption, the time of the Moshiach.

In none of these scenarios, lists of instructions, pledge etc is there an option to wait on the sidelines and have others do the work. 

To all those Jews who say that life in the HolyLand is too tough, corrupt, evil, not technologically advanced or affluent enough for their taste, life-style, holiness etc., you have nothing in the Torah or the Tanach, Bible to defend your position.

Judaism is a "hands-on," participatory religion.  We each pray directly to G-d.  We each must do what G-d commands.  Those of us here in Eretz Yisrael aren't your servants to develop the Land, improve the religious situation, clean up the government corruption and make it perfect for you, for your particular standards.

Like the barnyard animals who had expected the Little Red Hen to invite them to eat the bread she had worked so hard for, you may find yourselves out in the cold and hungry at the true Seudat Moshiach, Celebration Feast when the Messiah takes over.

The Shavuot holiday celebrates the fact that G-d gave us the Torah, which is the blueprint for living as Jews and our acceptance, Na'aseh v'nishma, we will do and we will listen.  Yes, we pledged all those millennum ago to obey the Laws, sight unseen, like the Lech Lecha order by G-d to Abraham to go "to the Land I will show you."

Don't watch Jewish History on the internet, even in a front-row seat.  Be a player and join us; contribute by participating.  I have no doubt that you'll find your place here in the HolyLand.  There are many options.

What If... RFK, Bobby Kennedy hadn't been assassinated....

The United States got stuck with only one of the four Kennedy brothers, sons of Joe Sr and Rose, living to old age.  This power-hungry Irish Catholic clan had great plans for their eldest son, Joe Jr. who was killed in World War II.  Son number two, JFK John Fitzgerald Kennedy fulfilled his father's dream and became the first Catholic President of the United States in 1960.  He and his wife were immediate glamorous myth-making legends.  Then JFK was assasinated before finishing even one term in office.

Son number three, RFK Robert Francis Kennedy was then pushed into the limelight and ran for president in 1968.  He, too, was assasinated and never even had the chance to actually be the official candidate.

So the USA and the world got stuck with young, immature Teddy Kennedy who grew into a very professional politician, although his private life was less successful.

Joe Sr was known as an antisemite and friend of Nazis, especially during his time, pre-WWII, as United States Ambassador to Great Britain.  I don't think his son Bobby shared those feelings.  Lenny Ben-David has a site with RFK's articles about his visit to pre-state Israel.

There's a lot of amazing stuff in his articles.  Here are a couple of excerpts:

Stabilizing Factor

The Jews on the other hand believe that in a few more years, if a Jewish state is formed, it will be the only stabilizing factor remaining in the Near and Middle East. The Arab world is made up of many disgruntled factions which would have been at each other’s throats long ago if it had not been for the common war against Zionism. The United States and Great Britain before too long a time might well be looking to a Jewish state to preserve a toehold in that part of the world.
I just wonder if Bobby Kennedy would have been a better president than his brother had been, and would he have been more pro-Israel as a former president and elder statesman etc than others were and are since his murder.

Or would he, like all the others accept the anti-Israel ideologies of the State Department and be no different from the others.  We'll never know.

It's Time To Take Off The Gloves, No Restraint


Holding back is weakness, especially when the enemy knows that you don't like killing. 

The last time the State of Israel, the IDF fought to win was almost thirty-eight (38) years ago during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.  We almost lost it for a few reasons. 
  • One was that the Americans didn't follow the signed treaty/agreement with us and reveal what they knew about the Egyptian plans to attack us.
  • Another reason was that instead of objectively trying to understand the reports from the Egyptian and Syrian fronts, "ideology" and politics ruled over facts.
  • Once we began fighting for our survival we foolishly consulted with the United States and asked for aid and permission to act, rather than fight the enemy with all our might and the help of G-d.
King David was our greatest soldier king, and when he was old and dying, he prepared his son Solomon to take over. King David instructed Solomon to first obey G-d  and second to execute his cousin, Yoav ben Tzruya, who could prove dangerous for his rule.
1 Kings Chapter 2 מְלָכִים א
א וַיִּקְרְבוּ יְמֵי-דָוִד, לָמוּת; וַיְצַו אֶת-שְׁלֹמֹה בְנוֹ, לֵאמֹר. 1 Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying:

ו וְעָשִׂיתָ, כְּחָכְמָתֶךָ; וְלֹא-תוֹרֵד שֵׂיבָתוֹ בְּשָׁלֹם, שְׁאֹל. 6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to the grave in peace.
Leadership is for the strong and tough. Survival of the fittest has many meanings.

The Arabs, especially the pro-Pseudostine aka Palestine sic, are the world's most accomplished shnorrers.  They are con artists par excellence. They have the Left brainwashing the world about rampant poverty, while you can see from the pictures that the situation is very different.  Look at this video of Gaza.  This is not the Gaza of the international media, United Nations or university curriculum. 

Your ordinary person in the street is well-dressed, the buildings are modern and all the best products are being sold.
