When Was the Last Time Moetzet YESHA Established a New Jewish Community?

I'm too weak right now for a full post, but this short news item about the NRP and Moetzet YESHA had me chuckling.

Jewish Home Meets with Yesha Council

Reported: 12:25 PM - Feb/24/09

(IsraelNN.com) As part of its role in any future government, the Jewish Home party says it is committed to promoting Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. Party representatives met with the heads of the Judea, Samaria and Gaza (Yesha) Council on Monday to discuss the issue.

At the meeting, leaders of the Jewish Home party and the council agreed upon some of the demands the national-religious party will make in coalition talks with Prime Minister-designate Binyamin Netanyahu. Among them will be protecting natural growth and development in Jewish towns and cities in Judea and Samaria, which is threatened by both international and internal political pressure. The Jewish Home and Yesha Council reached a detailed agreement on the matter, which is meant to guide the party in its negotiations with the Likud party.

I'll admit that my opinion is biased because Moetzet YESHA collaborated in destroying my community - and all of Gush Katif and four communities in nothern Shomron - and at least two members of the NRP came to Gush Katif in order to convince us to leave quietly. Memories of Bibi voting in favor of the expulsion and then opposing it about a week before the Yassamniks came haven't faded either. What do I think? I think we have to remember that the members of Moetzet YESHA and MK's are employees of the government. It's not easy to say no to the boss. Three and a half years ago some did. Most were "yes men".
Purim is coming. The Jews thought that all was lost then too. Will we see a big turn-around this year?
I hope you feel better soon. Refuah Shelemah!
Hodesh Tov and Purim Sameah!

Hadassa, thank you for giving the details. Yes, they all work for the government. That is what has preserved the NRP when they no longer have any grassroot support. And that's Moetzet YESHA, a gov't body.

I was too sick to think of why I found that announcement so "peculiar."

And Bibi is no more than a politician, just more knowledgeable than most.

You seem to be feeling better - true? Bibi is also an excellent spokesman, in Hebrew and English. He would be a great asset to the Jewish people, if he could just stick to his right-wing leanings.
The NRP is around also because of die-hard statists (mamlachtim) who will vote NRP, by any name, as long as it's around.

Baruch Hashem, yes, I'm better.

We do agree. For some people, NRP is like religion. Just like Jews voting dem in the states.... l'havdil or not?

Shy Guy, I'm not sure exactly why you chose that particular quote. Even the commentaries on it weren't helpful to me. Could you please explain?
Let me be more precise with my point: Bibi's skills as a spokesman are very useful, and if he would restrict himself to being a spokesman and restrain from making any political decisions, Israel would benefit. I'm referring to the importance of presenting the situation in Israel to Jews in the diaspora, not to anyone else, anywhere. We're supposed to be a people that dwells alone.
"...l'havdil, or not?" It would take hours, and not be worth the time, to determine how different and how similar those two dangerous voting habits are.

P.S. I just got back from a "K'far Darom" wedding that was held in Kibbutz Sa'ad, which used to be one of the last landmarks on the way home. Many signs for Gush Katif are still in place, with the lettering painted over. I always wonder why they've been left blank. Is it to remind everyone that settlements can be erased, or does it signify that the communities can be put back on the map and the signs re-lettered?

Uri, you can be a brilliant king, ruling over a plentiful land people trek to in times of hunger but if the king, his ministers, servants and the people of the land have no fear of G-d, everything they do and decide is profused with the potential of failure.

How much more so an already proven Jewish failure named Netanyahu, who will not place Hashem into any of the life-threatening equations he will deal with as prime minister of the G-d's people in G-d's land.

For those that read Ivrit:

Shy, I've been trying to follow you on this. And I'm lost. Your article makes sense, but I don't see the connection with my post.

Batya, The article Shy Guy posted is connected to Bibi, whom you've mentioned in your post and we've both mentioned in our comments.
Shy Guy, I never stated that Bibi is good for Israel. In fact I've stated quite the opposite on this very blog. I also have no delusions as to the general situation in Israel. (Perhaps you do if you honestly believe that MY is going to achieve anything in the Likud.) Bibi isn't good for Israel for many reasons, including those that you've stated, which is a shame because he's one of the few Sabra politicians in Israel who can speak articulate English and clearly communicate with Jews in the diaspora. That is my only point concerning Bibi.
And if you actually read my entire comments you'd see that they're ALL signed Hadassa, not Uri. Among other things, we share an email account.
Shabbat Shalom!

Hadassa, thanks
I don't think I've actually promoted him as a real leader. I find Bibi a waste of potential and totally disagree with his insistance on his Centrist policies.
