Every Month It Looks So Different

Today's the first day of Rosh Chodesh Iyyar, The Jewish Month of Iyyar. We were at Tel Shiloh, again. It beckons, yes it does. The more I visit, the more I feel comforted there.

At Tel Shiloh 1
We all feel very lucky living in Shiloh. It's a truly beautiful place, physically and spiritually.

It's hard to believe that sometimes years went by between my visits. But now, maybe it's my empty nest, I'm drawn to the site of Ancient Shiloh.

At Tel Shiloh 2
Is it the spirit of Chana?

At Tel Shiloh 5
Or is it the fact that the Holy Ark rested here in the Mishkan, The Tabernacle, for 369 years?

At Tel Shiloh 3
Ketoret was prepared for Worship.

At Tel Shiloh 6
The holiness seeped into the ground here, and thousands of years later it hasn't left.

Tourists come here from all over the world, so how could we ignore it?

At Tel Shiloh 4
G-d willing we'll be back visiting in another month for the beginning of the Jewish Month of Sivan. We're thinking of making the visit at the end of Iyyar, the 28th which is Yom Yerushalayim, Jerusalem Day. At the same time we can celebrate the Liberation of Shiloh from Arab rule actually neglect is a better term. That's because Shiloh was never anything but a Jewish City. After its destruction, no other people really lived here. Christians and Moslems came to worship because it was known to be a holy place for Jews, but they didn't have a town or city here.

And now, for thirty years already, we're back.

Come and visit. For tourist information, call the Tel's office, 02-994-4019.
