Snooping on Allies, Yes, Dry Bones Sees the Pollard Connection

Dry Bones got it 100% right!

Snooping on Allies?

The totally disproportionate and unprecedented punishment of Jonathan Pollard by the United States Government is a black mark on the American "justice" system and American society in general.  It's a horrible story.  It shows an underlying anti-Semitism and anti-Israel ideology in American society.  Soviet spies received lesser punishments for more serious security crimes.
  • Jonathan Pollard is the only person in the history of the United States to receive a life sentence for spying for an American ally.
  • On November 21, 2012, Pollard entered the 28th year of his life sentence, with no end in sight.
  • The maximum sentence today for such an offence is 10 years.
  • The median sentence for this offence is 2 to 4 years.
  • Aldrich Ames who spied for an enemy nation (the Soviet Union), committed treason, and was responsible for the deaths of at least 11 American agents, received the same sentence as Jonathan Pollard. Pollard's only indictment was one count of passing classified information to an ally. Pollard spent 7 years in solitary confinement, in the harshest unit of the harshest prison in the Federal system - FCI Marion.
Aldrich Ames' treatment was far more benign, and (except for a relatively short period of time during debriefing) did not include the rigours of long years of solitary; nor was he ever subjected to the harsh conditions of "K" Unit at Marion - even though his offence was far more serious.

"Spying for an ally" isn't really listed in your list of security crimes.  Pollard did break the law by taking highly secret documents and offering them to Israel, an ally of the United States with which there was a treaty promising Israel security information.  For that crime he should have been punished.  If he had been punished for that crime, he would have had been released from jail a very long time ago.  Also he never would have been jailed under such stringent conditions.

The fact that Jay Jonathan Pollard is still jailed by the American Government means that he was punished for something other than his actual crime.  What could that be?

Is it because Jonathan Pollard is a Jew and gave the information to the State of Israel?
