Bibi, Likud, You'll Pay in The Polls

The Israeli Elections can't be too soon as far as I'm concerned.  Two months are too far away for me.  Of course who knows what will happen before then.  Did Hillary promise PM Bibi that they'd "try not to interfere against him" if he signed on the dotted line?  Was that the offer he can't refuse?

Some day we'll know the truth, and the truth right now is that the Israeli public is disgusted and disappointed and wary of what's next.

We were waiting and ready to finish off our enemies.  The People are strong and motivated

Hamas Violates Cease-Fire; 70% of Israelis Oppose It

Even Tel Aviv was beginning to realize that they are only part of the State of Israel and not some la la bubble immune from the hate, violence and fighting.  Israel's Leftist elite have been delusioned that their pro-Palestinian State ideology would save them from the terrorism that has endangered Israel's south, north and Judea-Samaria.  This past war has proven their dream a lie.  The Gazan missiles have davka been aimed at Tel Aviv, and the biggest terror attack was in the heart of their city.
Hamas praised the terrorist bombing of a bus in Tel Aviv Wednesday afternoon, but stopped short of claiming responsibility.
"Hamas blesses the attack in Tel Aviv and sees it as a natural response to the Israeli massacres...in Gaza," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters. "Palestinian factions will resort to all means in order to protect our Palestinian civilians in the absence of a world effort to stop the Israeli aggression."

So why did Binyamin Netanyahu capitulate to American pressure so quickly?  No fight in him?  He's no leader.  He's an embarrassment.  Next week is the Likud Primaries and we'll have to vote very carefully to put as many good reliable people in top numbers, although I have little doubt that it will really help.
  • Bibi runs the Likud like a dictator.  He makes policy without taking into account what the voters want.  His top advisor is loser-Leftist Ehud Barak.
  • Last time, Bibi distorted the primaries results and pushed his supporters over a block of more Right-pro-Jewish Rights in the Land of Israel.  He even got the "judicial" of Likud to support him on that.
That's why I consider it of utmost importance to support the new party MKs Dr. Arye Eldad and Dr. Michael Ben-Arie have set up.

We will all pay in the polls, even if every last disenchanted voter votes for Eldad.

We are a very messed up country. Hashem Yerachim - I don't see any
other way out of our own stupidity.

Shy, there are two different directions we must go. One is ideological pressure from the outside showing Bibi that there's someone out there whom he must fear, and teh second is inside teh Likud, but he has teh Likud in his teeth and isn't letting go.

moshe feiglin. give him a chance. r dovid shirel who is his personal friend, is a very good rabbi and teacher.

10 even if Feiglin gets in he'll have no power. A vote for Likud is a vote for Ehud Barak.

Batya, the only reason you are correct is because of 1000s like you. It doesn't work unless everyone pulls together.

As I said to you elsewhere, do the math.

To paraphrase Abba Eban:

"The Jewish nationalist community never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity."

Oh, the irony!

Shy, we'll have to agree to disagree.

When the elections are over, watch everything I said come true.

Eldad will have his 3-4 MKs and Bennet his 10-12. And Netanyahu will be PM, remain hooked up with Lieberman and will bend even further left to again woo the likes of Barak or similar.

And you'll have accomplished nothing. Oh, yeh. You got to stick to your principles while Netanyahu sticks it to us again.

You would think that you would tire from watching the same movie for the dozenth time or so. Apparently not.

Shy, we need an opposition on the Right. This isn't a 2 party system. Get real. If NRP wasn't so hot to sit in the govt we'd have a good strong magnate to pull govt Right.

You might not have to wait two months. The Likud MK primaries are on Sunday. If Feiglin gets ten of his MKs in the Likud list including himself, then Bibi is forced to listen to G-d's directive against his will. He is a brilliant and clever man. He will figure it out. Besides all of Feiglin's supporters will be voting for either Naftali Bennett of Baruch Marzel in the General election. While the secular or traditional Sephardic Likud voters in the South who go to shul on Shabbat morning and go to soccer games in the afternoon will either vote for a chastised Bibi, after the MK primary, or for Naftali Bennett who has a great appeal to traditional voters who are tired now of the old games of playing or fighting by rules of engagement set up by the gentile world.

The star of Shaul has fallen. It is evidently clear. It came crashing down on Shaul HaMelekh St. in Tel Aviv on Wednesday afternoon and was buried 6 feet under on Wednesday evening. The Rose amongst the thorns is finally blossoming. There really has been a spiritual shift over the last 48 hours of epic proportions. The Voice of the Turtledove can be heard in the Land. In short, you will not have to wait two months to see it.

Think of the Providence. Four measly days after the Fall of the Dynasty of Shaul, there is the Likud MK primary. One measly week a storm that comes once in 200 years hits the Northeastern seaboard of the United States to shift the election in favor of Obama. The odds of both things happening separately are staggering. The odds of both things happening within weeks of each other is higher than the stars.

Batya, you don't need opposition on the right.

You need the right to rule.

Make sure you supersize your Coke and popcorn. You'll have plenty more time to nibble.

Batya, a famous quote suits you:

"Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results."

And Einstein didn't say it but the book title it really originates from is most appropriate.

Batya said...

Shy, insanity is thinking that Feiglin and anyone straight honest Right can/will take over the Likud. I'd like to see how much real change will come from Bennet in NRP. He's just window dressing for votes.

Dov and Shy, Bibi and Israeli govt don't work like that. It isn't a democracy within the MK's of a party. The leader makes his decisions and the MK's and ministers must nod yes or the MKs are pushed farther away from influence and the ministers lose their portfolios.

The Israeli system is very different from the North American 2 party system. We have the role of opposition. And opposition should come from both extremes.

As I've told you before, do the math. You are simply wrong. It's not a question of opinion. It can be done, by like-minded people. But you want to whine in opposition instead. Go ahead. Again and again. Brilliant strategy! It's worked so well since the establishment of the State, so why not?! /sarc

But, yes, as long as all the folks like you do otherwise, the plane can't take off the ground. Do the physics.

Obviously, math is hard.

I think you're right about Clinton's remark. It definitely sounds like she was trying to blackmail Bibi. In fact it seems very obvious.

Israeli politics are much more complex than in the US. Can Israel truly find opposition forces in both the left and rightwing parties? Democrats and Republicans are the only game in town here, which is part of the reason I abstained from voting in the presidential election.
